After a stroke or other life-changing events, you may question your faith and you may ask: Why me? Why Us? Are we being punished?
We have been recovering from a stroke for the last 16 years. By “we,” I mean our entire family. As you may know, strokes change the victims’ lives and the lives of those close to them.
There was a time after Barb’s stroke when we thought we’d never have fun again. That assessment has been proven wrong. Life can be good if that is the path you choose.
Over the last 16 years we saw our son and daughter grow up, play college sports, graduate, get married and have four beautiful grandchildren. We have had fun with friends, traveled and witnessed hundreds of sunsets, holidays and birthdays. It really doesn’t get better than that, for us.
Trust this, you will acclimate and eventually have fun again. It is a choice that you can make.
It’s about attitude of gratitude, being thankful for what you have and accepting that life is different but still good. Most stroke victims are more resilient than they originally think. Commitment to being happy on a daily basis is important. Our fun these days is different than it was prior to the stroke, but still it is good — even great on those special days! Clearly our glass is more than half-full. That’s the choice we have made.
Unfortunately, we were not able to do as much stroke counseling during the pandemic. Now people are more accessible and comfortable to talk in person. Further, we are reaching out more to share our experience with those in need.
Most dealing with stroke recovery find our story relatable. If you need a shoulder to cry on, whether you are a stroke victim or a family member, please give us a call. We are happy to share our story in person or on the phone.
God Bless You and Yours
With Love and Appreciation,
